Prepping for Digital Plein Air ‘Painting’

Trubright, OmnisketchI have been wanting to try Plein Air painting a try for some time and I think I’m getting closer to pulling it off. I first had to decide which app to use. There are many to chose from: Brushes Redux, Procreate and OmniSketch are several that I own and have used. I decided to go with OmniSketch, a simple yet powerful sketching app for iPad. It has no layers but very powerful blending effects and geometric brushes. My first attempt was not actually Plein Air, but from a photograph I took on a hike on trail along the Missouri River in Washington, MO. The crosshatching effect is created by using a brush with several vertical lines. I think I’m about ready to go out and draw in nature in real time!
